I am currently reading a book called Calm My Anxious Heart.
It is a Bible Study about surrendering control and finding contentment with God's plan for our life.
In the first chapter, the author shares a story about Ella, who served as a missonary in Africa for FIFTY TWO YEARS. She survived in temperatures of 120+ degrees, with no modern convenicnces. Her daughter found this in Ella's journal after she passed away. It is Ella's recipe for contentment:
1. Never allow yourself to complain about anything -- not even the weather
2. Never picture yourself in any other circumstances of someplace else.
3. Never compare your lot with another's.
4. Never allow yourself to wish this or that had been otherwise.
Never dwell on tomorrow -- remember that tomorrow is God's, not ours.
I could learn a lesson or two from Ella. With times such as they are in our contry right now, it is easy to worry about what tomorrow holds... instead of remembering who is holding us in His grip.
Where are you having trouble surrendering control?
