Happy Birthday Mom

Today is my mother's birthday, and I can hardly bring myself to share any words about how wonderful she is without sobbing. If you know her, you understand. My mom, Ava June, is my dearest friend. She's been there with me through it all ... bumps and bruises, art projects and games, breakups and my wedding, and the everyday joy and pain of living. She is also a great cook, southern-trained, and taught me my way around the kitchen.

My mom is an extraordinary friend and gives her time and friendship to whomever is in need. She is the kindest, most caring and humble woman I've ever met, and she gets what it means to live in community. My mother has shown me what it means to love, support, care for, and live life with your family ... regardless of if you're bound by blood. She cares so deeply for others because she understands that she has been cared for and lavished with grace by Jesus.

Mom, I'm not quite sure why God saw it fit to bless me with a mother like you. I certainly didn't deserve it. And on this birthday, more than any other, I want you to know how much I admire you for your strength, your perseverance through hardship, your surrender to God's will and spirit, and your joy. I count myself far more than lucky to have you not only as my mom, but as my best friend.

I love you. Happy birthday.

P.S. Apologies if this posts twice, but do note that this post corrects the error in the last: hear=heart. :)
