Nashville's Hidden Treasure

There is one thing I crave more than anything in the world.

And, it's really only served in one place, Nashville.

Two words that make my heart leap a little: fruit. tea.

(This is about the ONLY picture I could find of real fruit tea. Found here)

No, this is not "raspberry iced tea" or "peach tea" this is a lil' southern concoction all of its own and it's heaven...in my mouth. I think of it daily and I'm so not kidding.

There are a few places you can get said tea. These are among my favorites (if you are ever visiting the Nash)

Bar b Cutie has it (and a drive thru to boot!)

Food & Company has it and it's DELICIOUS DELICIOUS DELICIOUS

And Calypso Cafe has it, plus AMAZING Jerk Chicken and sweet potatoes

Fruit tea is sweet tea, meets pineapple juice, meets orange juice, meets mint, meets all of Kara's drink cravings.

I made fruit tea at home off of this recipe once, and it came pretty darn close. Make it today. It's the perfect summer sippin' treat!

Nashville's Fruit Tea

Ingredients:

  • Tea bags for 2 gallons tea
  • 1 1/2 quarts boiling water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 (48-ounce) can pineapple juice
  • 1 (12-ounce) can frozen orange juice
  • 1 (12-ounce) can frozen lemonade
  • Toss in some mint for good measure

Preparation:

Place tea bags in bowl or pitcher. Pour boiling water over tea bags. Add sugar, stirring to dissolve. Let tea bags steep in sugar water several hours or overnight. discard tea bags. Pour tea into a large bowl. Add juices, stirring well. Pour equal amounts into two one-gallon jugs. Add water to each to fill jug. Refrigerate. Shake well before serving.
Makes 2 gallons

Come back and see me!

I'm with you on the fruit tea. It's amazing. I just had some at Calypso earlier this week. Surprisingly Baja Burrito has pretty good fruit tea as well!

I have found that leaving out the lemonade produces a better Fruit Tea. I believe that Calypso also uses the Sweet Tea, Orange Juice and Pineapple Juice recipe as well.I also think using orange juice as opposed to frozen works best.I used this recipe altering a bit... omitting the lemonade and substituting Orange Juice as opposed to frozen and it worked great. Since I left out the lemonade it made about a 1 quart shy of a gallon but produced some of the best Fruit Tea I have had.

I tried to recreate this recipe too :) love the bread & co above all the others! Franklin mercantile deli has a pretty close one too though! Love for you to check mine out :) its similar except I don't use lemonade and add a peppermint tea bag :) http://lifeasapepin.blogspot.com/2011/08/recipe-knock-off-bread-company.html

My friend worked at B&C making their fruit tea, and the recipe she passed on is to brew the tea with the mint in it, discard mint and add sugar, orange juice and lemon juice. My preference is 2 parts sweet tea, 1.5 parts orange juice, and .5 parts Lemon Barley Water (from Publix in the British Section). Super easy and good. And the hubby adds scotch in occasionally for a nice nightcap. :)

I know this post was from a while ago, but in case you still look at this I wanted to tell you I came across this while looking for a recipe for a baby shower. The mom to be and I are both Nashvillians living in LA now, and it was wonderful to have a little taste of home. Thank you SO much!

Love Nashville's fruit tea! I harken back to the days of Tempo's and Green Hills Grill, but Bread & Co is the best...love their mint addition!!
