Please Pray

One of my best girlfriends gave birth two her third baby boy on Friday. There have been complications for little Samuel Connor and I wanted to let you all know so you could be lifting their family up in prayer. Below is a note Whitney has posted on facebook about what is going on. Please pray that little Samuel can be strong, and that God will give their family peace. Samuel is such a beautiful little gift and I just hate that he will have to face this disease. This is such a scary time.

Dear Friends,

On Friday, April 24th, at 3:51 p.m., I gave birth to Samuel Connor Paddock. He was 8 pounds 11 ounces at birth and was 19 1/2 inches long. After he was born the nurses noticed that he had a purplish discoloration, mainly on his back and lower body. His right hand and arm was also significantly larger than his left one. His right thigh and calf were much larger than his right one, and his left foot was larger than his right. The second toe on his left foot was also much longer than the rest of the toes on that foot. He was taken to Cardinal Glennon Children's hospital by ambulance a few hours after his birth and admitted into the neonatal intensive care unit. The preliminary diagnosis is Klippel Trenaunay Weber syndrome, a rare congenital condition that affects the blood vessels. Symptoms can include the "port-wine" staining, limb hypertrophy (which can affect the soft tissue and bones), and complications of the lymphatic system. The liver and brain can also be affecteddue to abnormal capillary growth in those areas.

The good news is that Samuel does not have any of the markings on his face. The doctor said that typically children with the marks on their face have developmental difficulties. On Monday, he will have an abdominal sonogram to check his liver and kidneys, as well as a brain sonogram. My guess is that he'll be covered with a lot of goo by the time he is done with that. They will also perform a bone scan due to the increased size of his toe and foot. This will probably be repeated in the future as limbs can continue to grow at an increased rate. I helped the dermatologist take pictures of the discoloration on his body, and we will talk with the head dermatologist tomorrow along with a geneticist. There is no known cause of Klippel Trenaunay Weber syndrome, and no way to detect it in utero. His heart rate, blood oxygen level and breathing are all normal, and other than the physical things noted above he is a healthy, happy baby. We will update further as we find out more

Thanks for your prayers,
Kara

1 Down, 7 to Go....

I have 8 weddings to go to so far this year. Yes, that's right, 8.

The first one was last weekend and I thought the bride, Andrea, had some adorable ideas that I thought you all may enjoy!

In place of favors, the couple made a donation to Project Kenya
I thought this was a great idea since lots of guests tend to leave their favors behind. Might as well put the money to good use....

Each table had a different fun, bright pink centerpiece. Some with flowers, some with candles. This was ours.....

I have never seen a larger glob of butter in my life, let alone rose-shaped...

Each table was named after a place the couple have been together. We got the park where they got engaged!

And they had the most delicious cupcakes for dessert!

This was such a fun wedding. We had about four tables full of friends from church, and it was a non-stop dance party. I had SUCH a good time. Jason and Andrea are just one of those couples that you can tell are so in love, both with the Lord and each other. What a great day!

Congratulations Jason & Andrea! Your wedding was a BLAST, and I know you two will be SO happy together! Best Wishes- despite my insane jealousy that you are in Mexico right now, and I am not.

Come back and see me!

Accesorizing your Shoes?!

My fellow blog friends, what you are about to see is a BRILLIANT idea. Courtesy of Etsy. ahhhh.

No Carnations' etsy shop delivers a way to spice up any pair of shoes with a fabulous hint of vintage.

That's right people. You can put these on any set of pumps.  These little lovelies wrap around your ankles then clip to the front of any shoe.

Brilliance I tell you!!!!

I knew you'd thank me....

Come back and see me!

It's an Easter kind of week.

As you can tell, it's been a pretty reflective week for me. Death, suffering, hope, a resurrection. This was, by far, my favorite Easter ever. At church, we had a sunrise service for our Illinois campus. It was incredible, and powerful to look over the whole city.

My favorite part of the sermon, "The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is working in you"

I spent the weekend celebrating with friends, family and in worship. What a blessing!

What an amazing Easter! I'm so thankful for friends, family and a God who loves us completely, despite our flaws.

How was your Easter? What did God reveal to you about his character and how He is working in your life?

Come back and see me!

Wait

John 16:16-24 (The Message)

16"In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me."

Joy Like a River Overflowing

17-18That stirred up a hornet's nest of questions among the disciples: "What's he talking about: 'In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me'? And, 'Because I'm on my way to the Father'? What is this 'day or so'? We don't know what he's talking about."

19-20Jesus knew they were dying to ask him what he meant, so he said, "Are you trying to figure out among yourselves what I meant when I said, 'In a day or so you're not going to see me, but then in another day or so you will see me'? Then fix this firmly in your minds: You're going to be in deep mourning while the godless world throws a party. You'll be sad, very sad, but your sadness will develop into gladness.

21-23"When a woman gives birth, she has a hard time, there's no getting around it. But when the baby is born, there is joy in the birth. This new life in the world wipes out memory of the pain. The sadness you have right now is similar to that pain, but the coming joy is also similar. When I see you again, you'll be full of joy, and it will be a joy no one can rob from you. You'll no longer be so full of questions.

23-24"This is what I want you to do: Ask the Father for whatever is in keeping with the things I've revealed to you. Ask in my name, according to my will, and he'll most certainly give it to you. Your joy will be a river overflowing its banks!

Isaiah 53 (The Message)

1 Who believes what we've heard and seen? Who would have thought God's saving power would look like this?

2-6The servant grew up before God—a scrawny seedling,
a scrubby plant in a parched field.
There was nothing attractive about him,
nothing to cause us to take a second look.
He was looked down on and passed over,
a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand.
One look at him and people turned away.
We looked down on him, thought he was scum.
But the fact is, it was our pains he carried—
our disfigurements, all the things wrong with us.
We thought he brought it on himself,
that God was punishing him for his own failures.
But it was our sins that did that to him,
that ripped and tore and crushed him—our sins!
He took the punishment, and that made us whole.
Through his bruises we get healed.
We're all like sheep who've wandered off and gotten lost.
We've all done our own thing, gone our own way.
And God has piled all our sins, everything we've done wrong,
   on him, on him.

7-9He was beaten, he was tortured,
but he didn't say a word.
Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered
and like a sheep being sheared,
he took it all in silence.
Justice miscarried, and he was led off—
and did anyone really know what was happening?
He died without a thought for his own welfare,
beaten bloody for the sins of my people.
They buried him with the wicked,
threw him in a grave with a rich man,
Even though he'd never hurt a soul
or said one word that wasn't true.

10Still, it's what God had in mind all along,
   to crush him with pain.
The plan was that he give himself as an offering for sin
so that he'd see life come from it—life, life, and more life.
And God's plan will deeply prosper through him.

11-12Out of that terrible travail of soul,
he'll see that it's worth it and be glad he did it.
Through what he experienced, my righteous one, my servant,
   will make many "righteous ones,"
as he himself carries the burden of their sins.
Therefore I'll reward him extravagantly—
the best of everything, the highest honors—
Because he looked death in the face and didn't flinch,
because he embraced the company of the lowest.
He took on his own shoulders the sin of the many,
he took up the cause of all the black sheep.

DIY Seed Packet Favors

This past weekend I held a bridal shower for my best friend Aria. It was a shower for her family. I did a simple spring garden theme, so naturally I thought seed packets would make the perfect favor! These would also make great favors at a garden luncheon, a baby shower, or birthday party!

Wanna make some? I'll show you how!

Start off with some seed packets. I got these at Deals, the dollar store, ten for a dollar...

Next, go to the card making aisle at Hobby Lobby. You'll find these cute lil guys called "a tag in a bag". Don't mind the torn front. I had to take one of these apart after I mad them to take pictures...

I set up a custom label on Microsoft Word to the size of the tag that comes in the little pocket. Just type in whatever you would like your favor to say on colored paper, and use a paper cutter to create straight edges...

Slide the card in the little pocket...

Then, print a little square on some paper and use white font to make "a favor for you" tags. You could do this on full page labels, but those suckers are expensive!!!

Then, glue the tag on the front of the pocket and get all your goods together....

Assemble the favors...

And, you're done! Set them up at everyone's place setting. They'll be a hit I promise!

I'll show you some more pictures from the shower tomorrow!

Come back and see me!
